Obituary for Annunziata ‘Nancy’ Di Nenna (1935-2022)
Our beloved mother, Annunziata ‘Nancy’ Di Nenna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at her home in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania.
She was born on March 25, 1935 to Vincenzo and Anna Di Leo in Montella, province of Avellino, Italy.
She was the beloved wife and steadfast supporter of 52 years to our late father, Mario Stanislao Di Nenna, who died in 2006.
After marrying in 1954, our parents emigrated to Argentina looking for a better future. They settled in Buenos Aires, built a home and raised four children. In spite of 20 years of hard work, they faced many hardships which led to their decision to emigrate once again, with the determination to ensure a better future for the four of us. It meant another hard separation for our parents. While our father came to look for new opportunities in Philadelphia, our mother remained with us in Buenos Aires. By the late 1970’S, the entire family resettled in Bridgeport.
In the U.S., our parents continued to work hard so that our family could flourish and to realize their hopes of better lives for all of us. Our father spent his last years in the house that our parents built together on Holstein Street, a project that they worked on for more than ten years brick by brick. It was the family gathering place to enjoy “Mami’s” cooking, her beautiful garden, and “Papi’s” love of retelling of family stories.
In addition to securing a good future for each of us, they left us a rich legacy of the values of family, faith, charity, education, friendship, and hard work which we cherish and continue to build on in our own lives. We were blessed to have them as our parents.
Besides her parents and husband, Annunziata was predeceased by her siblings Libera, Eugenio, and Ernesto. She is survived by her adoring children Luis (Carol), John (Lisa), Ana, and Vincent, and her grandchildren Mario, Nancy, and Albert, great grand-children Giovanni and Isabella, and nieces and nephews.
We are very grateful to the many relatives and friends for their outpouring of love and support which has given us much solace. We also thank Magdalena Palma who lovingly helped us care for our mother over the past four years.
Relatives and friends are invited to Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405, on Wednesday, February 2, where a viewing will start at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.
