Obituary for Betty Elizabeth Harkleroad (1942-2022)
Betty Elizabeth (nee Worthy) Harkleroad, age 80, of Bridgeport, PA and formerly of Mapleton Depot, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 11, 2022, in Bridgeport, with loving family members at her bedside. Born in Orbisonia, PA, Betty was the daughter of the late Roy and Eva (nee Varner) Worthy, the devoted wife, since July 9, 1960, of the late Jack Washington Harkleroad, the loving mother of Bonnie (John) Tharby and Carol (Dale) Hemmerle, the proud grandmother of Heather (the late Alfred) McWilliams, the late Brandon Viall, Victoria DiRenzo, Stephanie (Zach) Bruner and Neil (MacKenzie) Hemmerle and the adoring great-grandmother of Makayla and Natalie McWilliams, Zoey Ford, Dillon Jack DiRenzo, Olivia Bruner and Lakelyn Hemmerle. In addition, Betty is survived by 3 of her brothers, Eugene, Tom and LeRoy (Jake) Worthy, but sadly was preceded in death by her other 9 siblings, Robert Worthy, Viola Wakefield, Roy Worthy, Marie Crouse, Mary Wright, Raymond, Joseph, Bill and Gary Worthy.
Betty worked as a card key programmer for Gasboy, a gas pump manufacturer in Lansdale, for over 30 years with her husband, until they both retired on the same day in 1998. She was a long time and devout member of Beech Run Church of the Brethren and also sang in their choir. Betty was a very private person, she enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders, sitting with her dogs, Buster, Snowball, Muffin and Angel, spending time with her family, and traveling across the U.S. in her motor home.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 11 a.m., at Bowman Cemetery, Ridge Road, Mapleton, PA 17052.
