Obituary for Carmelena R. Edwards (1942-2021)

Carmelena R. Edwards, age 78, of Swedesburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, Carmelena was the daughter of the late Henry and Dora (nee Devinney) Churchill, the devoted wife of Jonathan H. Edwards, since June 18, 1978, the loving mother of Karen A. McGrath (Thomas), Carol L. VanZandt and Lauren E. Fell (Dustin) and the adoring grandmother of Connor, Jacob and Rylie McGrath and Victor and Nina Fell.

Mrs. Edwards was a graduate of Bishop Kenrick High School, Class of 1960 and went on to become a hairdresser for many years. She was a devout Catholic and long-time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she was baptized, received her First Holy Communion and was married.  Later she and Jonathan became members of Sacred Heart Church in Swedesburg where she served the church on numerous committees.  Carmelena was a member of “The Club”, a group of her best high school girlfriends with whom she spent time with regularly for over forty years.  Carmelena enjoyed line dancing, skiing, ice skating, vacationing at the beach and was an avid Phillies fan who cherished the times spent with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass honoring Carmelena on Monday, July 12, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp., PA 19405. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Memorial Donations to Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, 523 Plymouth Road, Suite 225, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462 in appreciation of their kindness and care for Carmelena.
