Dennis Cottone Obituary

Obituary for Dennis A. Cottone (1943-2020)

Dennis A. Cottone, age 77, of Swedesburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020 at home with his loving wife and family members at his bedside. Born in Norristown, Dennis was the son of the late James V. Cottone and the late Mary (nee Bevilacqua) Cottone, the devoted husband since October 22, 1966, of Leona R. (nee Salkowski) Cottone, the beloved father of James Dennis Cottone (Kristy) of Glenmoore and Julie Hoey (Fiance’ D.J. Unger) of Springfield, the adoring grandfather of Samuel  Hoey, Anastasia Hoey, Isabella Cottone, Abigail Cottone and Eva Cottone, the caring brother of Georgianna Summerill (the late Frank), the cherished uncle of Frank Summerill, James Summerill, Kimberly Vernacchio and Michele Guretse, and the proud great-uncle of his many great-nieces and great-nephews.  Sadly, Dennis was preceded in death by his other siblings who passed as children, the late Anthony Cottone and the late Charlotte Cottone.

Dennis was a hard working paving contractor working in the family business, James Cottone & Son Paving, for most of his adult life. He retired from paving in 1983. As a child, he was a member of Holy Saviour Church and later, he joined Sacred Heart Church, where he married Leona, working their festival, helping out with other church events and participating in their Holy Name Society. He was also a life-member and Past-President of Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company, a member of Norristown Maenner-Chor and Westover Golf Club. He will fondly be remembered for his love of Italian cooking, his tireless work with the CYO in their basketball and baseball programs, his time spent coaching Bridgeport Little League and his enjoyment of golf.

Due to the current health restrictions, a Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held in the springtime. The family would appreciate Mass Cards in honor of Dennis. Arrangements are by The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp., PA, Keith J. Murphy, F.D., 610-275-6385, www.gutkowskifuneralhome.com
