Obituary for George J. Strouse (1930-2023)
George Joseph Strouse, age 93, formerly of California, Kings Manor and Collegeville, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023 in East Norriton. Born in Norristown, George was the son of the late Oswald John Strouse and the late Katherine (nee George) Strouse and the devoted husband, since 1958, of the late Marie Jose “Irene” (nee Cools) Strouse. George is survived by his brother John (Dorothy) Strouse and his sister, Geraldine Moley, as well as his many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, but sadly was predeceased by his other siblings, the late Gerald Strouse, the late Catherine Ivey, the late Bernadette Catania, the late Mary Perry, the late Rosalee Partenheimer and the late Francino Capolingua.
Mr. Strouse was a graduate of West Catholic High School, Class of 1948. He then enlisted in The U.S. Navy, proudly serving our country from 1951 until he was Honorably Discharged in 1955. While in The Navy, George earned the rank of Engineman Second Class, sailed on The USS Richard E. Kraus (DD-849) and received The National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was known as an accomplished automotive mechanic and owned a service station in California. He retired from that and then worked at an auto dealership for a number of years. He always had a pool in his yard and was said to be very close to all of his neighbors.
Relatives and friends are invited to Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405 on Saturday, October 14, where George’s viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California, on Thursday, October 19, 11:30 a.m. The family would appreciate Memorial Donations to Southeastern Veterans Center, 1 Veterans Drive, Spring City, PA 19475 or Catholic Charities Appeal, 2133 Arch St., 4th Fl., Phila., PA 19103.
