Obituary for Gregory J. Barbish, Sr. (1958-2021)

Gregory James Barbish, Sr., age 62, of Norristown, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media. Born in Norristown, Gregory was the son of the late Thomas J. Barbish, Sr. and the late Dorothy (nee Shaw) Barbish, the former husband of Karen Barbish, the beloved father of Gregory James Barbish, Jr. (Kelly) of Garnet Valley and Justin Barbish of Chadds Ford, the adoring grandfather of Ella Barbish, Alyssa Barbish and Gregory James Barbish III and the cherished brother of the late Thomas J. Barbish , the late William Barbish, Helen Rooney, Frank Barbish, Jerry Barbish, Dan Barbish, the late Donna Barbish, Cindy Herron and Tracy Nielsen. In addition, Gregory leaves behind his 31 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Barbish was a graduate and member of the football team of Norristown High School, Class of 1977 and continued his education at Millersville University. He went on to become a master pool plasterer, working with David E. Callahan Pool Plastering for many years, until he was injured in 2007 and retired. While at Callahan, Gregory was very proud of his work and taught other workers how to do it right! He enjoyed watching all of the Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles, cruising in his 1973 Mustang Mach 1, playing pool and traveling to California to see family members referred to as “The West Coast Barbishes”! His favorite pastime was being with his family and his grandchildren.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, October 4, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, 305 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp., PA 19405 and his Funeral Mass, also on Monday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg.
