Obituary for Julian W. Kurpiel (1925-2020)

Julian W. Kurpiel, age 95, of King of Prussia, PA, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his bedside on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Born in Cyków, Poland (presently Ukraine), Julian was the son of the late Wasyl Kurpiel and the late Aniela (nee Kaminski) Kurpiel, the devoted husband for over 70 years of Sophia (nee Rytwinski) Kurpiel, the loving father of Thaddeus (the late Elaine) Kurpiel of Coatesville and Jadwiga (James) Vanderberg of Vienna, Austria, the proud grandfather of Vanessa, Uschi, Lukas, Benjamin and Christian and the cherished great-grandfather of Timothy, Hannah, Jessica, Sadie, Ryan, Quinn, Kyle, Kikue and Ashton. Sadly, Julian was predeceased by all of his several siblings.

Mr. Kurpiel was born and raised in Poland. He was baptized at St. Trinity Catholic Church in Nizankowice and served in the Polish Army Division Signal Corps for the Allied Forces during WWII. When the war was over, Julian moved to Britain and finished his education there. After moving to the States, he worked for Alan Wood Steel, in their lab, testing steel for about 15 years and then for Control Data Corp in their quality control department for the next 10 years. He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church, as well as their Holy Name Society and St. Cecelia’s Choir. He also worked at their Polish Festival, where many will remember him as the balloon man! At home, in his spare time, Julian enjoyed carpentry, wood working and gardening, making sure there were no leaves on the lawn and waxing and polishing his car.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, November 28, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, 305 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp., PA 19405, Keith J. Murphy, F.D., 610.275-6385, followed by his Funeral Mass, also on Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405.
