Obituary for Kathleen M. Lachowicz (1928-2021)
Kathleen “Kass” M. Lachowicz, age 92, of Swedesburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 with her family by her side. Born in Philadelphia, Kass was the daughter of the late Allen Davidson, who passed in 1935, and the late Margaret (nee McPeak) Davidson. After her father passed, Kass was raised by her mother and her stepfather, the late Angelo D’Alessandro. Kass was the devoted wife of the late Edward C. Lachowicz, Sr.; the loving mother of Deborah Ann Pontino, Laureen (the late Mark) Wisniewski and Edward C. (Lisa) Lachowicz, Jr.; the beloved grandmother of Jamie (Stephen) Vigliotta, David Pontino, Andrew Wisniewski, Megan Wisniewski, Kate Wisniewski, Kaitlyn Pasquarella, Robert Pasquarella and Aubrey Kathleen Lachowicz; the adoring great-grandmother of Xavier Vigliotta, Noah Vigliotta and Edison Vigliotta; and the cherished aunt of the late John Davidson, Cathi Morton, and Steven Davidson.
Although born in Philadelphia, Kass was a true Conshy girl with deep Irish roots. She was industrious, hard-working and, above all, committed to her faith. After graduating from St. Matthew’s High School, Class of 1947, Kass began her lengthy career. Kass prided herself on her work ethic and was a dedicated employee, spending most of her career at Interstate United and Waverly Heights, where she later retired at the age of 79.
Kass was a longtime and devout member of Sacred Heart Parish. She dutifully worshiped and served her beloved church for over six decades. In addition to being a lector herself, Kass also recruited and organized the lector schedule. She took her role very seriously! Kass was a member of the Rosary Society in addition to helping the Polish nuns at Sacred Heart master the English language.
Kass was at her happiest when surrounded by her family, and we were at our happiest spending time with her. No weekend mass was complete without a pew full of family members, followed by a breakfast at Michael’s Deli. Between holidays, birthdays, shopping trips, sporting events, performances, and days spent with family at her Jefferson Street home, Kass was always present, happy, and filled with love.
We are so lucky Kass, our Mom Mom, was our matriarch; we can think of no stronger woman to guide our family and faith. She embodied what it meant to be a ‘Renaissance Woman’, and we continue to aspire to be more like Kass as we continue on her legacy.
Relatives and Friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Monday, June 21, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp., PA 19405. Interment will follow Mass in St. Augustine Cemetery. The family would appreciate Memorial Donations to Sacred Heart Church, at the address above. Arrangements are by The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, Swedesburg, PA, 610-275-6385, Keith J. Murphy, F.D., www.gutkowskifuneralhome.com
