Michael John Lechman

Michael J. Lechman, 57, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born November 27, 1964, in Webster, MA, to Neonillia (Korchynska) Lechman of Lafayette and the late Wolodymyr Lechman Sr.

Michael graduated from Brookfield East High School in Brookfield, WI and received Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Mathematics and Education from Purdue University in West Lafayette.   

Michael worked as an accountant for various companies and most recently with Indiana Packers. 

He was a member of the Plast National Scout Organization of Ukraine, CYM Ukrainian American Youth Association, St. Josaphat Ukrainian Caltholic Church in Munster and attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Michael was an avid marathon runner and Grateful Dead fan.  He enjoyed live music and concerts and had coached youth soccer.

Surviving along with his mother are his brothers Wolodymyr B. (Lydia) Lechman, Jr. of Etobicoke, Ontario (Canada), Peter A. (Toula) Lechman of Glenview, IL, and Mark E. (Rebecca) Lechman of Lafayette, IN.  Michael also had four nieces and four nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN.  Services will also be held in Pennsylvania on Friday, July 15th at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Street, Bridgeport, PA 19405, where there will be a viewing held from 10 a.m. until his Divine Liturgy begins at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or The Ukrainian Medical Association of North America, UMANA, in Michael’s memory.
