Obituary for Nesbur G. Brandt, Jr. (1942-2022)
Nesbur Gilton Brandt, Jr., age 79, of Norristown, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022 with loving family members at his side. Born in Gettysburg, Nesbur was the son of the late Nesbur G. Brandt, Sr., who was killed in action on April 14, 1945, and the late Mary Catherine (nee Johnson) Walker. Nes was the devoted husband, since June 5, 1965, of Eileen (nee Kuroczko) Brandt, the proud father of Annette Brandt, Denise Hennessey (Thomas) and Anthony Brandt, and the adoring grandfather of Ashley Hennessey, Zachary Brandt, Nicole Hennessey, and Joshua Brandt. Nesbur grew up in a large family and was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Martin and his brother Rodney E. Brandt, but is survived by his many sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Brandt was a 1960 graduate of Eichelberger High School in Hanover, PA and went on to become a millwright, and ultimately, a project manager and estimator. During his career, Nesbur, a member of Millwright and Machinery Erectors Local Union 1906, worked for Borreson in Oreland from 1965 to 1985, and after acquisition, Henkels & McCoy from 1985 to 1998. He also had his own businesses, Brandt & Son Fabricators, which he ran from 1983 until 2000, and ABCD Contractors for a short time to install turbines in Kansas City. Ultimately, he consulted for George Young Company from 1998 to 2011. While at George Young Company, in 2003, Nesbur was instrumental in designing and orchestrating the move of a national treasure, the iconic Liberty Bell to its current location. This was his favorite project in his career. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, integrity, and innovative approaches within the industry. Most importantly, the leader that mentored many and led the charge.
Nesbur was also a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, and was known as a man who loved to work and worked to live. He enjoyed racing his 1967 Camaro at Maple Grove, fabricating things in his garage, woodworking, going with his family to Cape May, and attending the games for his beloved Eagles at Franklin Field and The Vet for 30 years. His devotion to his family will be his legacy.
Relatives and Friends are invited to Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405 on Saturday, March 12, where his viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. and his Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow Mass in St. Augustine Cemetery.
