Obituary for Nicholas E. Yacovelli (1928-2022)
Nicholas (Nick) Edward Yacovelli, age 93, a lifelong resident of Swedesburg, died on Monday, August 1, 2022 at home with his loving daughter at his bedside. Born on December 11, 1928 in Swedesburg, PA, Nicholas was the son of the late Antonio and the late Giovina (nee Manzi) Yacovelli, the devoted husband of the late Kathleen (nee Crandall) Yacovelli for over 67 years, the beloved father of Eleanor (Gregory) Burke and the last of his siblings to pass. His brothers were Salvatore, Camille “Gus” and John Yacovelli and his sisters were Minnie Kurcik, Connie Lannutti and Viola Priest. In addition to his daughter and son-in-law, Nicholas is survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mr. Yacovelli was a graduate of Upper Merion High School, Class of 1947. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, served over 6 years, and was Honorably Discharged in November 1953. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, with clasp, National Defense Service Medal and The OCOM Medal. He served two years in the Philippine Islands and one and a half years in Germany. While stationed in Germany, he toured such places as the Netherlands and also Italy, where he had a group attendance seeing the late Pope Pius XII. Nick also toured such places as Florence, Rome and Naples, Italy in addition to Switzerland.
He worked several jobs including an Army Reserve Technician in Norristown from April 1960 until March 1984, Wilson Trucking Company from January 1960 to June 1980 and later at the Montgomery County Courthouse for over 10 years, until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed gardening and keeping his yard and all of the bushes, roses and other plants trimmed, watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights and was a loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles teams.

Murphy, F.D., 610-275-6385, www.gutkowskifuneralhome.com, on Thursday, August 4, where Nicholas’ viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until his Funeral Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery with Military Honors.
