Obituary for Warren H. Ball (1929-2020)

Reverend Dr. Warren H. Ball, of West Chester, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2020, one day shy of his 91st birthday. Warren was born in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Joseph Emil Ball and the late Louise Schmuck Ball, and was the devoted husband of Gwendolyn Newkirk Ball for over 66 years. He was the loving father of David J. (Debbie) Ball, Stephen W. Ball, Mary L. (Marty) Diller and Beth B.(Nicholas) Giuliani and the adoring grandfather of his 10 grandchildren and his great-grandson. Warren was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Irving Ball.

Warren was valedictorian of Split Rock High School in Syracuse, Class of 1945. He earned his B.A. (1949) from Houghton College and was on the baseball, track, and debate teams, as well as Student Council President of his class.  He received a B.D. (1952) and Th.M (1953) from Princeton Seminary and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree (1976) from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

Reverend Ball began his ministry in 1953 at Latta Memorial Presbyterian Church in Christiana, PA, until 1957 when he organized the Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA. In 1959, Warren pastored the Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge PA until 1978. He then served as minister of Coatesville Presbyterian Church until 1985 and later became Director of Supervised Ministry (1989) at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia.

Warren enjoyed raising goats, making apple cider, and growing beans and corn on his farm. He finished 3rd place in the Penn Relays, running a 100 meter dash at the age of 76. He loved spending time with his family and sharing his deep faith in God with all.
